General Questions

What makes JP Orthodontics different from other orthodontic offices?
JP Orthodontics is Gunter’s first locally owned, doctor-led orthodontic practice. Every patient is treated directly by Dr. Jay Patel — a Board Certified Orthodontist, not a rotating associate. Our focus is on personalized care, transparent pricing, and long-term results
Board certification is the highest distinction an orthodontist can achieve. It means Dr. Patel has completed additional written and clinical examinations that demonstrate expert-level skill and a commitment to the highest standard of care.
No referral is required! You can schedule a consultation directly with JP Orthodontics
Yes, we accept PPO insurance and provide transparent, all-inclusive pricing with no hidden fees. Our team can help verify your benefits before treatment begins.

Braces

What types of braces do you offer?
We offer metal, ceramic, and self-ligating braces. Each option is designed for comfort, effectiveness, and aesthetics.

Treatment length varies based on each individual’s needs; however, most treatments take between 18–24 months.

You may feel mild discomfort for a few days after braces are placed or adjusted. This is temporary and easily managed with over-the-counter pain relief.

Absolutely! We can recommend specific custom mouthguards for athletes, and braces adjustments can accommodate band instruments.

Most patients visit every 6–8 weeks for adjustments and progress checks.

Clear Aligners

Are aligners as effective as braces?
Yes, for most cases. Braces may be better for complex tooth movements, but aligners are highly effective for mild to moderate crowding or spacing.
For best results, wear your aligners 20–22 hours per day, removing them only for eating, drinking, and brushing.
Most patients complete treatment in 12–18 months, depending on their case complexity.
You may notice slight changes at first, but most patients adjust quickly within a few days.

Early Treatment (Phase I)

What age should my child first see an orthodontist?
The American Association of Orthodontists recommends an initial evaluation by age 7. Early visits help identify potential issues before they become more complex.
Phase I, or early interceptive treatment, is designed for children ages 7–10 to address jaw growth or spacing issues before all permanent teeth erupt.
Not necessarily. Some children only need monitoring until they’re ready for Phase II (teen treatment).
Depending on your child’s needs, Dr. Patel may recommend an expander, partial braces, or habit appliances.
Most early treatment plans last between 9–12 months, followed by a resting period before full treatment begins.

Teen Orthodontics

What’s the best treatment option for teens?
It depends on your teen’s situation and needs. Braces are the most common, but many teens prefer clear aligners for flexibility and appearance. We will recommend the treatment option that is best suited for them.
Not at all. Braces and aligners can easily be managed with protective mouthguards or removable trays.
Typically every 6–8 weeks for adjustments or progress checks.

Adult Orthodontics

Am I too old for orthodontic treatment?
Never! Adults of all ages can achieve great results. Healthy teeth can be moved at any age.
Many adults prefer clear aligners for their discreet appearance, though ceramic braces are also a great option.
Yes — JP Orthodontics offers flexible scheduling and treatment plans that work with your lifestyle.
Absolutely. Straight teeth are easier to clean and reduce the risk of gum disease, tooth decay, and jaw pain.

Gingivectomy

What is a gingivectomy?
A gingivectomy (laser gum contouring) gently reshapes excess gum tissue to improve the balance and appearance of your smile.
Most patients report minimal discomfort. Laser treatment is precise and minimally invasive, with quick recovery times.
Recovery is fast — most patients resume normal activities the same day.
Yes, it’s a perfect finishing touch to enhance your smile after orthodontic treatment.
